calculator homework This homework will give you practice in parsing, inheritance, interfaces, event-driven programming, packages, ArrayList, and monk canterbury designs involving programs that use the Mukherjee’s Daughters Essay MVC (Model-View-Controller) model of interaction. In case you have not already noticed, this is an Open homework. You must read the Open/Closed policy before working on this project. Monk Tales! The policy can be found at policy. Your company wants to build a suite of interactive calculators, e.g., a integer calculator, a scientific calculator, a financial calculator, etc. For this homework, you will create a generic calculator class, called GenericCalcEng (Generic Calculator Engine), which provides a general framework for the implementation of several types of Essay calculators. By extending the GenericCalcEng you will be able to implement concrete calculators (e.g., scientific, financial, etc.). Tales! For this project, in about addition to tales implementing the le chateliers GenericCalcEng, class you will implement two classes that implement two concrete calculators. This first class is named RestaurantCalcEng, and it represents a calculator used in fast food restaurants.

The second one is named ScientificCalcEng, and represents a typical scientific calculator. We will provide code to be used in the development of Graphical User Interfaces for the concrete calculator classes you will implement. The code will allow you to easily define a calculator interface in no time. More details about the tales program are provided in the Specifications section. Note: The bulk of the implementation associated with this project is the implementation of the logic that creates functional calculators. This logic is what the JUnit module (that you will create) will test.

Developing the actual GUIs is flaw, a minor component of this project and something that should take you almost no time. For example, if you choose not to implement the GUIs for the calculators you will notice that you will pass all the tests in the submit server, as we don't check for that component via the tales submit server. Propaganda Wwii! The graders will check the GUIs manually. Take note of the point distribution for this project as this will tell you the monk tales weight associated with the GUIs. This homework will be graded as follows: 75% - Implementation 10% - Implementation of your JUnit Test 5% - Restaurant Calculator GUI 5% - Scientific Calculator GUI 5% - Time log.

Calculator Operation Model. Note: In the description below an operand represents a numeric value and an operator any user-defined computation (+, -, factorial, etc.) Most numerical calculators process the following type of operations: unary operations - Those that require one operand (e.g., sine(10)) binary operations - Those requiring two operands (e.g., 10 + 30) no-operand operations - Clear operations, backspace operations, constant definition, etc. Education Background! Before completing any calculations, all calculators need to identify whether a unary, binary, or no-operand operation is being requested, along with the operand(s) (if any). Once the identification has been made, the canterbury actual processing (determined by education, the operand) will take place. This means that, if you implement several calculators with different operands (e.g., a scientific, restaurant and monk binary calculators), parts of Bharati Mukherjee’s Daughters Essay your processing will be common to all calculators. Specifically, the canterbury tales common processing is the identification of the about kind of operation requested and canterbury tales the operands.

To implement this common processing without code duplication, the best approach is to define a class that provides methods that tell us what operator needs to be processed along with the Mukherjee’s Desirable Daughters Essay operands. Canterbury! By using this class, we need only worry about implementing the computation associated with each particular operator. For this project you will implement such a class. We name this class GenericCalcEng (Generic Calculator Engine) , because, as its name implies, it provides the generic behavior associated with any calculator. The class identifies operators and operands, and provides support for flaw common operations found in any calculator (e.g., processing of backspaces, reset, etc.). Tales! This class cannot generate any results. It just identifies what needs to be done and relies on a subclass to photosynthesis actually implement the processing associated with an monk, operator. Le Chateliers! Implementing a calculator using GenericCalcEng. Let's suppose you want to implement a simple floating-point calculator that supports the monk canterbury operators +, -, *, /, =, backspace, and reset. To implement this calculator you just need to Essay create a new class (let's called it BasicCalc ) which extends the GenericCalcEng.

By extending GenericCalcEng, BasicCalc doesn't need to implement the monk backspace or the Desirable reset operation as those are already provided by the base class. Furthermore, it doesn't need to implement any code to identify operands (e.g., reading digits) or code that identifies operators. Monk Tales! All this processing is taken care of by about Flu Vaccinations in Schools, GenericCalcEng. Monk Tales! What does BasicCalc implement? It provides the GenericCalcEng with a list of the operators (the name and The Relationship Fashion and Lifestyle type) the monk canterbury BasicCalc will process. In addition, it provides the implementation of abstract methods present in pigments the GenericCalcEng class. One of these methods takes care of monk processing unary operations, the le chateliers other takes care of binary operations and a third one is in charge of processing constants. The GenericCalcEng will call these methods to tales process operators it identifies. As you can see, defining new calculators is Fashion, relatively easy, once the monk GenericCalcEng has been implemented.

More details about the The Peloponnesian GenericCalcEng and the classes you must implement are provided in monk canterbury tales the Specifications section. The code distribution is The Peloponnesian, available by checking out the canterbury tales project named p8 . The code distribution provides you with the following: A library called cmsc131CalculatorLib . A number of Java files. - This class represents the education technology set of JUnit public tests. Canterbury Tales! The expected results for each test can be found in War the text files with a pub prefix. Monk! A time log file. Calculator Library (We provide this.) The cmsc131CalculatorLib provides a number of support classes that you will need for this homework. The classes you will find in this package are: GenericCalcGUI : A class that implements the generic calculator GUI. GUIListener : An interface that defines the le chateliers callback method used by monk tales, the GenericCalcGUI class. Java Files (We provide these.) : This simple class is Essay Implementing in Schools, just a convenient encapsulation of two entities, an operator name and its type. Monk Canterbury Tales! Although its use is not required, it is likely to come in handy.

The operator name is The Relationship Essay, just a single String symbol (e.g. Canterbury! + or /, Super, Fries). Essay! The type is used in your processing. Types include things like whether this is monk, a binary or unary operator (see below). Le Chateliers! The class consists of a constructor with the canterbury tales following prototype: public CalcOperator(String operatorName, int operatorType) This class also provides two accessor methods, getName( ) and getType( ) , which return these values.

The various operator types are encoded as symbolic constants (as int values). The operator type names for this assignment are: For example, a binary operator such as + has the education technology operator type CalcOperator.BINARY_OP . CalcEngExample : This class provides an example of tales a calculator engine implemented by photosynthesis, extending the monk canterbury GenericCalcEng class. Hamlet Flaw! It is monk canterbury tales, provided just to Daughters Essay help you get an idea of canterbury how to Implementing Flu Vaccinations design your own calculator engine. GUIExample : This class provides an tales, example of photosynthesis how to monk canterbury implement a GUI interface and tragic controller using the GenericGUI class. Tales! Again, it is provided to The Relationship help you get an idea of monk canterbury tales how to le chateliers design your own calculator GUI.

TestsSupport : This class has support code for the JUnit public tests. You will implement GenericCalcEng , a Java abstract class that represents the model component of the monk canterbury MVC paradigm for photosynthesis pigments the generic (common) part of the canterbury calculator. Le Chateliers! The generic calculator can be tailored to canterbury tales recognize any unary and photosynthesis binary operators we want to canterbury tales implement. The generic calculator parses (that is, it syntactically classifies or recognizes) operators and education technology operands and passes those values to canterbury tales methods in hamlet the derived classes that will take care of implementing the monk canterbury operator. We can classify the GenericCalcEng operators into pigments the following categories or types : Unary operators : Those requiring only canterbury, one operand. (For example, cosine, square root, etc.) Binary operators : Those requiring two operands. War Essay! (For example, addition, multiplication, etc.) Assignment operator (=) : Evaluates and displays the result of a binary operator. Clear operator : Clears the entire state of the calculator.

Clear last operand : Resets the last operand entered, by setting it to monk canterbury tales 0. Backspace : Erases the hamlet last character of the display. Canterbury! Constant : Initializes the current operand with a constant value, e.g., the le chateliers function associated with a PI calculator button. The GenericCalcEng operands are defined by monk tales, the digits 0 through 9 and/or a decimal point. This means that the generic calculator will recognize as valid operands the following entries: 123, 123.45, 0, 0.56. There is no need for a '-' sign, since negation (if needed) is handled at education background, the operator level (e.g., unary +/-).

GenericCalcEng Public Operands. Monk Canterbury Tales! The public methods of the le chateliers GenericCalcEng class are: Default (no argument) constructor : Defines the calculator state to be ready to process selections. The display unit is initialized with the monk canterbury value of le chateliers 0. Canterbury Tales! addToOperatorList : Because a GenericCalcEng works with different concrete calculators, it needs to photosynthesis pigments keep track of which operators the canterbury tales calculator will support. The generic calculator engine does not apply these operators, since that is american propaganda, left to the derived calculator classes. Monk Canterbury Tales! But it does need to know, for example, that sqrt is the name of photosynthesis a unary operator. In order to know this, a GenericCalcEng object maintains a list of operators and their associated types. This list must be implemented using an ArrayList . Monk Canterbury! The list starts out empty, and this method is called to add a given operator and its type to this list. Here is its prototype: public void addToOperatorList(String operatorName, int operatorType) The parameter operatorName is the String name of the operator (e.g., + or sqrt). War Essay! The operatorType identifies the operator type as one of the canterbury types given above (UNARY_OP, BINARY_OP, etc.), as given in the table above (see code distribution). The entire list of operators must be given before the tragic flaw calculator is actually used. processSelection : This method implements the monk canterbury action(s) that take place whenever a calculator button has been clicked. For example, to Bharati Essay add the numbers 42 and 5 the user click the monk sequence of pigments buttons: 4, 2, +,5, and monk =. This would result in five calls being made to hamlet tragic flaw this method, each time passing the canterbury name of the button selected as the argument.

Here is the prototype: public void processSelection(String selection) The method recognizes digits, the period and operators. It combines digit(s) and/or the period in order to photosynthesis pigments generate operands. You may assume the tales operator input is Bharati, valid. This method will also trigger the canterbury tales execution of hamlet tragic flaw any operator once the appropriate operands (if any) have been identified and monk canterbury will update, if need be, a string object representing the The Peloponnesian War calculator display. Monk Canterbury! Thus, processSelection is the core method of the GenericCalcEng class.

This key method is education technology background, described in monk tales greater detail below. getDisplayContents : As the pigments calculator is used, your program must keep track of the monk tales quantity to be shown in the calculators display unit. About Implementing Flu Vaccinations In Schools! This method returns a String that represents the calculator's current display contents. It is called by canterbury, the GUI whenever the The Relationship Fashion Essay display needs to be updated. public String getDisplayContents() For example, when the calculator starts up, a call to this function will return 0. After the user clicks on monk tales the button 4 (which causes processSelection(4) to be called) the new contents of the le chateliers display will be 4. After clicking on 5 (causing the call processSelection(5)) the monk display contents will be 45. processUnaryOperator : This is an hamlet, abstract method that must be provided by the concrete subclass (e.g., ScientificCalcEng) public abstract String processUnaryOperator(String operand, String operatorName) This method is monk, called by processSelection once a unary operator and photosynthesis its operand have been identified. The processUnaryOperator method must implement the monk canterbury functionality of all the unary operators provided through the education technology background addToOperatorList method. Note that the monk argument is passed in Essay Implementing Flu Vaccinations as a String (not double or integer).

Rather than converting digits to numbers immediately as each digit button is tales, pressed, it is The Relationship and Lifestyle, easier to monk concatenate the digits into a string, then pass the string to education technology processUnaryOperator (or processBinaryOperator below), and then convert the result to monk a number. Photosynthesis Pigments! You may assume the operator input is canterbury, valid. processBinaryOperator : This is an abstract method similar to propaganda processUnaryOperator that deals with binary operators. Tales! You may assume the tragic flaw operator input is valid. public abstract String processBinaryOperator(String firstOperand, String operatorName, String secondOperand) processConstantOperator : This method is called by canterbury, processSelection once a constant operator has been identified. American! The processConstantOperator method returns a String representing the constant value associated with the operatorName parameter. You may assume the monk canterbury tales operator input is flaw, valid. public abstract String processConstantOperator(String operatorName) Feel free to add any additional private methods as you see fit.

However, you may not add any public methods beyond the canterbury tales ones specified above. As mentioned above, the photosynthesis processSelection method does not apply any binary or unary operators, since this is done in the concrete derived classes (e.g., ScientificCalcEng). Canterbury! For example, if the propaganda operator is the canterbury tales binary operator +, then processSelection will call a method in the derived class to apply the american addition operator. (See processUnaryOperator, processBinaryOperator and processConstantOperator methods above). On the monk canterbury other hand, operators that are deemed to le chateliers be common to all calculators (e.g., ASSIGN_OP, CLEAR, CLEAR_LAST_OPERAND, BACKSPACE) are implemented by monk canterbury, this method. For purposes of testing, it is The Relationship Fashion and Lifestyle Essay, necessary that you implement your calculator functions in tales the same way that we do. Photosynthesis! If you consider the tales calculator's behavior when the Daughters user keys in the sequence 3 4 + 5 6 = the number 34 is the tales first operand, the propaganda operator is +, and the second operand is 56. When = is seen, the binary operator + is canterbury tales, applied, and hamlet the resulting sum of 90 is monk canterbury, displayed.

How does the Implementing Flu Vaccinations in Schools calculator know that 3 and monk 4 are parts of the first operand and Between Fashion and Lifestyle 5 and 6 are parts of the second operand? The calculator is controlled by its state, which is tales, made up of the american propaganda following variables: firstOperand : (String) The left operand of tales a binary operation (34 above). secondOperand : (String) The right operand of a binary operation (56 above). Fashion And Lifestyle! currentOperator : (String) The binary operator (+ above) which is to monk tales be applied to these operands. displayContents : (String) The current contents of the display unit. context : (int) Indicates the context in which the le chateliers calculator is currently running (see below). Canterbury! theOperators : (ArrayList) A list of the operators and about Implementing Flu Vaccinations in Schools their respective types for monk tales the current calculator. War Essay! Keep in monk canterbury tales mind that you can add any other instance variables you see fit and education technology you don't need to monk canterbury use exactly the education variable names we provided. The calculator's operation depends on the context. Monk! The possible contexts (states) are: Reading-First-Operand ( RFO ): This is the photosynthesis default context. Any digits that are entered are stored in monk tales the first operand.

Reading-Second-Operand ( RSO ): This context is entered whenever a binary operator is The Relationship Between Fashion and Lifestyle Essay, entered. Digits that are entered are stored in the second operand. Error ( ERR ): You are not required to implement this context (since we will not test for canterbury it explicitly). This context is entered whenever an error occurs (e.g., invalid input such as 3.4.5 or division by zero). When in this context the calculator ignores all operations until the operation CLEAR operation is tragic, performed. Semantics of monk tales GenericCalcEng Operators. The calculator starts in the default state, which is War, described in monk canterbury tales the CLEAR operator below.

In the Bharati Desirable description below, the monk tales term current operand refers to Essay Implementing in Schools either firstOperand or secondOperand, depending on the current context, RFO or RSO, respectively. CLEAR : Sets the calculator to canterbury the default state where the Daughters display shows the value of canterbury 0, and photosynthesis pigments the context is RFO. Monk! CLEAR_LAST_OPERAND : Sets the The Relationship Between Fashion Essay current operand to zero. Updates the tales display with a 0 value. BACKSPACE : Removes the rightmost character (whether a digit or a decimal point) of the american wwii current operand.

If the rightmost character is the canterbury tales only character, it replaces the character with 0. Le Chateliers! It updates the display accordingly. Monk Canterbury! ASSIGN_OP : If the The Relationship Between Essay context is monk, not RSO, this operation is technology, ignored. In the RSO context, the processBinaryOperator() method is invoked. The first operand is monk canterbury tales, updated with the The Peloponnesian War Essay result of the most recently specified operator, the result of the tales computation is technology background, displayed, and tales we return to the RFO context. UNARY_OP : The processUnaryOperator() method is Daughters Essay, invoked on the current operand. The display is monk canterbury, updated with the Bharati result of the computation. CONSTANT_OP : The processConstantOperator() method is monk tales, invoked. The current operand is initialized with the value returned by processConstantOperator().

The display is updated with the The Relationship Between Fashion and Lifestyle constant value. Monk Tales! BINARY_OP : There are two cases, depending on The Peloponnesian War Essay the current context. RFO : The first operand and tales current operator are saved, and the context is The Relationship Between Fashion Essay, changed to canterbury RSO. The display is not changed. Le Chateliers! RSO : There are two cases, depending on whether a second operand has yet been entered: If no input has been provided for tales the second operand then no calculation is performed, and the current operator is saved. Photosynthesis Pigments! (For example, the monk input 4 + * 6 = results in 4*6=24, and the + is le chateliers, ignored.) Otherwise (if the second operand is monk, nonempty) then the The Peloponnesian Essay previously saved current operator is now performed by invoking the processBinaryOperator() method.

The result is stored as the canterbury tales first operand, and the display is le chateliers, updated to canterbury this value as well. The second operand is reset to empty, and the given operator becomes the new current operator. (This allows us to chain binary operators together, so that 3 + 4 * 5 = results in (3+4)*5 = 35.) Creating calculator engines using the GenericCalcEng class. Flaw! In order to monk canterbury have an operational calculator we must extend the GenericCalcEng class. American Wwii! The subclass will specify the monk operators and hamlet flaw provide the implementation of the monk tales GenericCalcEng abstract methods. The class CalcEngExample, part of the code distribution provides an example of flaw creating a very simple calculator based on canterbury tales the GenericCalcEng. The Relationship Between Fashion And Lifestyle Essay! Once you have implemented GenericCalcEng and one of its subclasses we have a fully operational calculator. However, it is not one that is easy to use. We have provided a class called GenericCalcGUI (Generic Calculator Graphical User Interface) that will enable you to create a complete calculator GUI. Monk Tales! We will describe the The Peloponnesian War process for canterbury a basic floating-point calculator ( which you do not need to implement for this project ). Photosynthesis Pigments! You will need to implement a similar process for canterbury tales both the Essay restaurant and monk scientific calculators. Le Chateliers! The setup for these is canterbury, exactly analogous to le chateliers the basic calculator (just replace Basic with Restaurant or Scientific below).

As you read this, please refer to the file (given in the code distribution). It illustrates how to create a simple GUI with a couple of buttons. Monk Canterbury! The behavior of technology is trivial, and simply echoes back the canterbury user's selection. First, you would define a class BasicCalc that implements the photosynthesis GUIListener interface (see the code distribution). This interface requires that your class BasicCalc implement the following callback method (which is tales, invoked whenever the user clicks on a button). The Relationship Between Fashion! Its job is to monk canterbury tales process the selected operation and american update the tales calculator display contents. Technology! (More about monk canterbury tales this below.) public void buttonSelected(String selection) In your BasicCalc class define an instance variable, say gui , that is of type GenericCalcGUI. (We have provided the GenericCalcGUI class for le chateliers you as part of the cmsc131CalculatorLib.) Create a new GenericCalcGUI in monk tales your BasicCalc constructor, and save a reference to it in this instance variable. The GenericCalcGUI constructor takes two parameters: a String giving the Essay about calculator window title, and a two-dimensional array of String objects representing the monk tales positions and The Peloponnesian Essay labels of the buttons in the calculator. Each row of canterbury tales strings represents a row of buttons in Essay the GUI.

This can be a ragged array, implying that some rows have fewer buttons than others. Monk! Finally, you need to inform the education GUI that your BasicCalc class is the one implementing the callback method (buttonSelected). In order to tales do this, from The Relationship Between and Lifestyle, within the monk tales BasicCalc class constructor, invoke the gui's setGUIListener() method as follows: In order for education background your calculator to tales possess the desired functionality, you must create a second instance variable in your BasicCalc class. Photosynthesis! This variable stores a reference to monk canterbury tales a concrete instance of a GenericCalcEng class that implements the education technology background functionality of the monk basic calculator. Essay Implementing! Let's call it engine . Canterbury Tales! In your BasicCalc constructor, create such a new instance and Essay assign it to monk canterbury tales engine. Now, when the buttonSelected() callback is called, it needs to Essay Flu Vaccinations perform the following operations: invoke the engine's processSelection() method to process the selected button, get the contents of the monk calculator's display (as a String) by invoking the engine's getDisplayContents() method, and update the wwii calculator's display contents. Tales! This is done by invoking the technology background method gui.setDisplayContents() method. Its argument is the value returned from the previous step. The following figure illustrates how the various classes interact at the user-interface level for canterbury tales this basic calculator example.

The picture is similar for Fashion and Lifestyle the restaurant and scientific calculator. Remember, you don't need to implement this basic calculator. We are just using it as an monk, example of how to set up a GUI for propaganda any calculator. Classes you must define. For this homework you must define the following classes: GenericCalcEng : Implements the generic calculator. Tales! RestaurantCalcEng: This class extends the GenericCalcEng class and implements the engine of a floating-point calculator used in a restaurant.

The mathematical operations will be implemented using Java's double type (not float). The functions expected from this calculator are as follows. (These are registered with GenericCalcEng using the addToOperatorList() method.) For the The Peloponnesian restaurant calculator only , result values should be displayed using two decimal points. This format requirement can be satisfied by monk canterbury tales, using the java.text.DecimalFormat class, as the Implementing in Schools following example illustrates. Monk! double value = 78.123; DecimalFormat decimalFormat = new DecimalFormat(0.00); String valueStr = decimalFormat.format(value); A value of 78.12 will be stored in Between valueStr. RestaurantCalc : The RestaurantCalcEng class only performs the canterbury calculator operations. The RestaurantCalc class sets up the necessary connections to the GUI to education technology create the actual restaurant calculator. Canterbury! See the photosynthesis pigments file in the code distribution) for an example of how to do this.

The GUI appearance must match the monk GUI presented in le chateliers the Sample Run section. ScientificCalcEng : This class extends the GenericCalcEng class and implements the engine of a floating-point scientific calculator. The mathematical operations will be implemented using Java's double type (not float). The functions expected from canterbury, this calculator are as follows. About In Schools! (These are registered with GenericCalcEng with the monk canterbury addToOperatorList() method.) Most of the aforementioned operators can be found in Essay Implementing Flu Vaccinations the Java Math class. Monk! For the Flu Vaccinations in Schools scientific calculator only , values with no fractional part should be displayed without a decimal point.

This format requirement can be satisfied by using the monk tales java.text.DecimalFormat class, as the following example illustrates. Essay! double result = 12.0; DecimalFormat decimalFormat = new DecimalFormat(); String str = decimalFormat.format(result); A value of monk tales 12 will be stored in War str (instead of 12.0). Monk Canterbury! The call to method setGroupingUsed( false ) is le chateliers, used to disable the automatic insertion of commas. Canterbury Tales! With this call the value 12345678.9 would be converted to Bharati Daughters Essay 12345678.9, and without it the monk value would be converted to Essay Implementing 12,345,678.9 instead. ScientificCalc : The ScientificCalcEng class only performs the calculator operations. The ScientificCalc class sets up the monk tales GUI for the scientific calculator. See the hamlet tragic flaw file in the code distribution) for monk an example of how to do this. Technology! The GUI appearance must match the GUI presented in the Sample Run section. Note: For all calculators defined above, the standard arithmetic rules of monk precedence do not apply.

For example, in american propaganda the expression 34 + -56 * .5 the first two operands are added before multiplication is monk, applied, so the result is The Peloponnesian Essay, -11 (not 6). Packages you must define. Monk Tales! In order to gain experience in designing a programming project involving packages, you must create the following packages and american arrange your classes as described below. The packages must be named using the names we have specified; otherwise, we will not be able to grade your project. Monk Canterbury! (Remember that packages can be created in le chateliers Eclipse using File → New → Package.) genericCalcEng : We have already created this package for you. It contains the tales GenericCalcEng class and le chateliers the file we provided. restaurantCalc : Contains the RestaurantCalcEng and the RestaurantCalc classes. scientificCalc : Contains the monk canterbury ScientificCalcEng and the ScientificCalc classes.

As with all programming assignments: You must use meaningful variable names and good indentation. You must avoid code duplication, by american, calling appropriate methods (rather than cutting and pasting code). You may define your own private utility methods to tales perform often repeated tasks. Please do not change the names of any of the photosynthesis pigments classes you are to implement, and use signatures given above for your methods . The graphical layout of your calculator must match those given in tales the sample run. You must use the same package structure given above. Your operator list in GenericCalcEng must be implemented using ArrayList from the Java class library. Test your program using the pigments JUnit module you create and monk test your submission using the submit server. In this section we present two snapshots of the The Relationship Fashion and Lifestyle calculators you are expected to monk implement. This will guide you in determining how to set up the GUIs.

If you take a look at the file and tragic the pub*.txt files, you will be able to see the processing associated with the the different operators each calculator implements. As you can see, you can tests your implementation without using GUIs. Canterbury! Here is an example that shows two snapshots of the calculators you are expected to implement, in their initial states. We have provided a JUnit module representing the photosynthesis public tests. However, you need to canterbury create your own JUnit module to test your project. Pigments! Define the tests as you see fit. We expect at least three tests in the JUnit file. Name your JUnit test file

Feel free to use the TestsSupport.processSeveralSelections method to process different key combinations, as we did in the Remember that you are not required to implement the following problem. Monk Tales! Please visit the course web page for information regarding challenge problem. For this challenge problem, you have three possible choices, each for a particular number of gold stars. The Relationship Fashion And Lifestyle! If you want to implement them all that is fine, however we can only canterbury tales, grade one. IMPORTANT : For the challenge problem create a package called challenge . In that package should appear any classes needed to education background complete your challenge problem implementation. The challenge problems below may require you to modify the GenericCalcEng and other classes of canterbury your homework. Provide the modified versions of american wwii these classes in the challenge package.

Make sure you provide, in the challenge package, a file with a main method that allows us to monk canterbury run the challenge problem calculator. Also make sure that your Challenge class has a default constructor. War! Note: For the monk canterbury challenge problem you must use the scientific calculator. Make an le chateliers, entry in monk tales the timelog indicating which Challenge problem choice you have implemented. Add an option to the calculator that allows the display to show the Flu Vaccinations results using commas. For example, instead of 12345 the user would see 12,345. You should add a button to canterbury tales the GUI labeled com that allows the about user to turn this feature on and off. Step 2 (1 additional Gold Star, for a total of canterbury 2) In addition to Choice 1 , add the following memory functions to education technology background the calculator infrastructure: MS - Allows you to monk tales store in memory the element currently being displayed. MR - Allows you to The Relationship Fashion and Lifestyle use the monk canterbury tales value stored in background memory as the next operand.

Any retrieved value is immediately displayed. Canterbury! MC - Sets the memory to photosynthesis pigments 0. Tales! You should add three buttons to the GUI labeled MS, MR, and MC, respectively. Mukherjee’s! Choice 3 (1 additional Gold Star, for tales a total of le chateliers 3) In addition to Choice 1 and Choice 2 , add parenthesis semantics to the calculator infrastructure. Monk Canterbury! That means your calculator can process expressions surrounded by Essay Implementing Flu Vaccinations, parenthesis, regardless of the level of nesting. You should add two buttons to the GUI labeled ( and ). Feel free to place the tales GUI buttons wherever you consider to hamlet tragic be best. Canterbury! Submit your project using the submit project option associated with Eclipse.

Remember to complete your time log before submitting your homework.

Dental trauma: A hygiene student's case study. By Lauren Wilgenbusch, Minnesota State University, Mankato. Tooth avulsion is among the tales most common and serious dental injuries. According to le chateliers the American Academy of monk canterbury Pediatric Dentistry, it is defined as the complete displacement of Bharati Mukherjee’s Desirable a tooth out of its socket. It is responsible for up to 16% of all dental injuries in the permanent dentition. Healing of an avulsed tooth often presents a challenge and depends on the vitality of the cell layers along the root surface. Immediate replantation at the accident site is the most critical determinant for the survival of avulsed teeth. Delay in replantation will perpetually result in root resorption and loss of the tooth (Kenny, 2006). Complications after replantation of avulsed teeth are common and canterbury tales, have conveyed incidence rates ranging from 57% to 80% (Nesiama Sinn, 2010). Complications may arise during the next several years of Essay Implementing Flu Vaccinations in Schools regular dental exams, including ankylosis, excessive mobility of the tooth, and resorption.

Other complications that can emerge consist of discoloration, infection in the pulp, and reinclusion of the monk canterbury tales tooth as a result of wwii root replacement resorption and ankylosis (Emerich Wyszowski, 2010). Most replanted teeth will be lost in five to seven years even if root canal therapy has been done after replantation (Nesiama Sinn, 2010). The patient, a 13-year-old female, was seen for monk, emergency treatment in July 2005. The child was catapulted over the handlebars of a bicycle, resulting in the avulsion of the right and left permanent maxillary central incisors. The avulsed teeth were left dry in american propaganda wwii the palm of tales her hand for 10 minutes until she reached the hospital where the teeth were placed in milk. Other oral injuries included a laceration on the right side of the philtrum, which was sutured. Examination of the avulsed teeth revealed that the crowns were intact but the mesial incisal edges of both were fractured. Treatment options were explained to the parents and replantation of the avulsed teeth was chosen. Education Technology? She was referred to a local dentist to have the teeth replanted. The roots of the teeth were planed to remove any debris and canterbury, were then reinserted into the alveolar socket and secured with a splint for six weeks. During the next year the patient had root canals done, followed by metal posts and PFM crowns placed on the avulsed teeth (Figure 1).

Due to the patients age at the time of trauma, the crowns were replaced five years later with lava crowns, which are porcelain crowns with a zirconia framework inside (refer to figure 2a and 2b). One year after the crowns were replaced, the teeth became mobile. The patient went in for an appointment and radiographs confirmed external root resorption had occured around the reimplanted teeth (refer to figure 3). The root resorption in tragic this case was most likely due to PDL damage. Treatment options were explained and the decision was made to extract the teeth and place dental implants. She was referred to a Mankato, Minnesota oral surgeon for the implants. Implants in the anterior region signify a particular challenge for oral surgeons. The ideal outcome is normal, natural-looking teeth, but that is canterbury not always a possibility.

Many considerations need to be made in order for the implants to look as natural as possible, such as the need for bone and tissue grafting (Block, 2001). When extracting a tooth with intentions of le chateliers replacing it with an implant, the decision needs to be made whether to do an immediate implant placement or delayed placement. In this case, infection was not present, so implants were able to be placed immediately. In the case of the patient, bone grafting was needed and was performed at the same time as extraction and implant placement. Most anterior maxillary tooth sites have insufficient bone and soft tissue, requiring both bone and soft tissue augmentation (Block, 2001). The oral surgeon, Dr. Richard Kim, D.D.S., M.D., explained how the procedure went. When the monk canterbury patient first came in, she was put to education technology sleep with intravenous general anesthesia. When she was asleep, I removed teeth numbers eight and nine. For immediate extraction with implant placement, the first initial pilot hole is placed a little bit lingually from the extraction site. You want the top of the implant to come out where the tooth cingulum would be so that more porcelain can be placed toward the buccal of the crown. After this, you go in with a 2-millimeter wide twist drill, then a larger tapered twist drill, and keep increasing the diameter of the drill until you reach the monk tales desired size, which was 4.3 mm in this case.

I used Tapered Groovy Titanium Nobel Biocare implants for the patient at a size of hamlet tragic 4.3 mm in diameter. Monk? The implants had threads which made it a little wider so it could engage the bone. I then used a torque wrench to tighten the implant into the bone and I was able to american obtain a force of 45 Ncm2, which tells you the primary stability of the bone. I then placed bone allograft, which included BMP-2, to promote bone regeneration. The last step was securing the healing abutments, suturing up the monk tissue, and adjusting the flipper to le chateliers fit. (Refer to figure 4.) As previously stated, the gingival flap performed on the patient during the implant surgery resulted in monk canterbury blunted papillae on all four of the maxillary incisors, revealing one millimeter of cementum on the lateral incisors and american wwii, shrinking the tissue making the healing abutments visible over the flipper. Composite was added to the apical portion of the flipper to mimic tooth structure and conceal the abutments (refer to figure 5).

The patient and canterbury, oral surgeon agreed to do a cosmetic procedure called a subepithelial connective tissue graft to correct the problem. The subepithelial connective tissue graft produces exceptional color matching at the recipient site and should be considered whenever soft tissue grafting is recommended in an area of esthetic concern (Sclar, 2003). This patient received a closed bilateral palatal subepithelial connective tissue graft one month after the implants were placed. The procedure went as followed: A horizontal incision was made on the palate approximately three millimeters apical to the premolars and propaganda, ranged from the mesial of the first premolar to monk canterbury the distal of the second premolar. A second incision was then made, which determined the tragic thickness of the donor site. The tip of the scalpel was then reinserted inside the second incision, parallel to the palatal tissue and another incision was made, which created a subepithelial pouch. Following, vertical incisions were made within the pouch through the connective tissue to define the width of the donor site. An incision was made at monk the most apical portion and the connective tissue was then dissected from the subepithelial pouch. Donor tissue is education technology composed of connective tissue, epithelium, fat, and periosteum.

It was instantaneously taken and placed over monk tales the recipient bed, where it was then adjusted and sutured into Bharati Daughters Essay, place. The recipient site was prepared beforehand by revealing some connective tissue and obtaining a blood supply for the donor tissue. An absorbable collagen dressing (CollaPlug) was then placed in canterbury the subepithelial pouch to fill the dead space and aid in hemostasis. Propaganda Wwii? The wound was then sutured closed and healed by secondary intention (Sclar, 2003). The patient was healing well until a week after the surgery, when a suture became unfastened, mobilizing the tissue and exposing the canterbury facial and mesial root surfaces of number seven. The patient returned for le chateliers, a post-op appointment and the area was examined. The oral surgeon (Dr.

Kim) attempted to repair it at monk canterbury tales the appointment. The patient was anesthetized with local anesthesia, a connective tissue bed was made at Bharati Desirable Daughters the recipient site, and monk, Alloderm was positioned over the exposed root surface of number seven and immobilized with sutures. Alloderm connective tissue grafts are composed of freeze-dried human cadaver skin with all immunogenic cellular components removed (Sclar, 2003). A coe-pak periodontal dressing was then placed over american the surgical site to canterbury tales provide protection, help prevent postsurgical bleeding and assist in shaping newly formed tissue. The allograft failed and the mesial and facial root surfaces of number seven were exposed once again. The patient was then referred to a periodontist with optimistic expectations of a successful tissue graft.

She was seen for a consult and a treatment plan was developed. The patient had a mucogingival defect at the facial and mesial surfaces of number seven; each presented three millimeters of recession. The papillary tissue between numbers seven and le chateliers, eight was absent, which presented a particular challenge for the periodontist since lost papillary tissue previously could not be regenerated. The patient returned for surgery two weeks later. Local anesthesia was used on the patient. Monk Canterbury? A connective tissue bed was made on the recipient site. To receive a decent color match, the Mukherjee’s Daughters Essay donor tissue was taken from the attached gingiva on the buccal side of teeth numbers two and three; the papilla was included in tales the donor tissue. It was then transplanted onto the connective tissue bed and sutured into position with the donor papilla replacing the missing papilla between teeth numbers seven and eight.

A periodontal dressing was placed over the donor site to aid in healing and the patient was dismissed. The patient returned for a post-op appointment two weeks after the procedure and a good response was shown with a wide band of Bharati Daughters Essay keratinized soft tissue support, partial facial root coverage, and regeneration of a mesial papilla. After healing of the epithelial graft, the patient returned to her general dentist to have the tales abutments and crowns placed. The healing abutments were removed, impressions were taken and propaganda, shades were matched and sent to the lab (refer to figures 6a and monk canterbury tales, 6b). The patient returned two weeks later for the crown fitting. Propaganda Wwii? The doctors were successful in regenerating some of the tissue on monk, tooth number seven but were not efficacious in restoring the tissue apical to the implants.

The crown placement resulted in lengthy-looking crowns, which did not meet the patients esthetic demands, so different treatment options were considered (refer to figure 7). It was agreed to use pink porcelain crowns. The use of gingiva-colored ceramics in addition with a fixed prosthesis has been recommended for photosynthesis, treatment of gingival recession (Capa, 2007). It can be challenging to achieve natural gingiva color so a gingival shade guide was sent to the office and used to match the monk canterbury tissue. An intraoral photograph was taken to assist the technician in providing the proper gingival color (refer to figure 8). Pink porcelain was added to pigments the crowns and tales, shaped to accommodate with the anatomical contours of the maxillary incisors and completed with a glaze. They were returned to the office for the patient to evaluate.

She was satisfied so they went ahead with treatment. Hamlet Tragic? The maxillary lateral incisors still consisted of inadequate tissue coverage (refer to figure 9), so composite material was placed on the facial and mesial surfaces to monk coronally extend the crown of the teeth. The abutments were then secured into the implant site and the pink porcelain crowns were cemented into place. Radiographs were taken to hamlet tragic confirm adequate crown placement and photographs were taken of the final result (refer for figures 10, 11a and 11b). Figures 10, 11a, 11b. Dental hygienists play a key role in maintaining the replacement of avulsed teeth. Canterbury Tales? They are faced with the challenge of treating patients who have avulsed teeth and educating them with proper oral hygiene instruction so they last for education background, years to monk come, whether they are reimplanted or replaced with dental implants. Patients that have successfully undergone dental implant surgery should receive treatment modifications during dental care.

All patients with dental implants should be treated with plastic instruments in hamlet the affected area because stainless steel or titanium instruments may scratch the monk tales surface of the implant promoting the growth of plaque biofilm; the photosynthesis use of ultrasonic machines should also be avoided (Todescan, Lavigne Kelekis-Cholakis, 2012). Individual treatment modifications may also have to be considered depending on the past periodontal health of the patient. Several studies have shown that prior periodontal infections are a significant source of periodontal pathogens and may proliferate to the dental implant. Monk? Other factors that put patients at hamlet flaw greater risk include the presence of diabetes mellitus, poor plaque control, and cigarette smokers. Patients with any of these qualities should be closely monitored on monk, a regular basis in hopes of extending the life of their dental implants (Todescan et al, 2012).

A thorough understanding of the clinical signs on education technology, peri-implant diseases is critical to monk tales the prognosis of the implant. There are many clinical examinations that can be used to discover the health status of le chateliers a dental implant. This includes a soft tissue assessment, plaque index, clinical probing depths, bleeding on probing, suppuration, stability of soft tissue margins, mobility, and bone levels (Todescan et al, 2012). The soft tissue assessment entails checking for clinical signs of gingival inflammation, including edema, redness, and variations of delineation and uniformity. A plaque index measuring system should also be utilized during the canterbury clinical examination. Studies have shown that implants sprayed with titanium plasma that possess a rough surface have higher plaque retention rates than smooth surface implants. On the about Implementing in Schools other hand, other studies have shown no correlation between the surface texture of an implant and plaque retention. Canterbury Tales? However, caution is advised when monitoring rough surfaced implants because of the possibility of Mukherjee’s Desirable greater amounts of plaque accumulation (Todescan et al, 2012). Probing is an essential and canterbury, dependable diagnostic guideline in the longitudinal monitoring of peri-implant tissues.

A plastic probe should be utilized at le chateliers recall appointments to measure the midaspect of the mesiobuccal, buccal, distobuccal, mesiolingual, lingual, and distolingual surfaces of the abutment. At the initial appointment after the placement of the implant, baseline probing depths should be determined. Probing depths for traditionally placed implants with supraosseous platforms generally range from two to four millimeters. Canterbury? Intraosseous implants or implants placed at propaganda wwii bone level may display slightly greater probing depths. Increase in clinical probing depths along with bleeding upon monk canterbury probing and le chateliers, suppuration are generally associated with loss of attachment and monk canterbury tales, should be regarded as a peri-implant disease. Le Chateliers? The clinical assessment should also include monitoring the monk canterbury tales soft tissue margins in relation to the fixed dental implant. Apically migrating gingival tissue may expose the Flu Vaccinations in Schools implant surface to bacteria, increasing biofilm accumulation.

Any recession around the implant should be noted and monitored (Todescan et al, 2012). Mobility should be routinely evaluated by means of manual examination or automated testing devices such as the Periotest dental measuring instrument or the Ostell instrument. The cause of any signs of mobility should always be determined if possible. Mobility may be due to failure of the prosthetic or osseointegration. Tales? If the implant device moves as a whole unit, failure has occurred and the device should be removed (Todescan et al, 2012).

If clinical signs imply peri-implantitis is present, radiographs should be taken to confirm the diagnosis. At each recall appointment, an Bharati Desirable, effort should be made to calibrate radiographic techniques so that the monk tales relationship between bone and implant can be well defined. It is le chateliers also important to tales establish baseline bone levels after implant placement for comparison reasons (Todescan et al, 2012). There are three diagnoses that can be made in regards to the health of le chateliers dental implants. Healthy is when no clinical signs of canterbury tales inflammation are present. Implant mucositis is characterized as a localized inflammatory lesion within the soft tissue, and may be recognized by redness and bleeding upon probing. Peri-implantitis is identified by a localized inflammatory lesion which also includes attachment loss around an osseointegrated dental implant. It is often correlated with increased probing depths, suppuration, bleeding on probing, and loss of supporting bone (Todescan et al, 2012). Daily plaque removal is the hamlet tragic most critical factor in maintaining dental implants. Therefore, it is imperative the monk tales patient have a thorough understanding of their responsibility in preserving their implants along with proper at-home care techniques.

An individualized oral hygiene regimen should be provided for the patient according to Mukherjee’s Desirable the condition of the soft tissues and extent of plaque accumulation and should be reviewed at every recall appointment. Home care devices that have been shown to aid in the maintenance of dental implants include soft toothbrushes, interdental brushes without metal wiring, end-tufted brushes, gauze, many types of canterbury tales floss, stannous fluoride gel, and Desirable, chlorhexidine rinse (Todescan et al, 2012). In conclusion, traumatic dental injuries such as avulsion can be accompanied by tales many complications and photosynthesis, can also be time consuming and costly. In addition, they may affect many aspects of life such as function, appearance, and self-esteem. But with new technology and experts in their field, missing teeth and tissue can be esthetically replaced and maintained and the patients quality of life and monk canterbury tales, self-esteem can be returned. 1.
